Overcoming Depression
There are many things in life that can cause you to become sad or depressed... a bad break up, death, an argument with a friend, or a number of other things. So, how do you get through this time of sadness?
1. You have to realize sadness or depression is a choice. Okay. Things can occur can cause you to experience these emotions, but choosing to stay in that place of sadness is completely up to you. So, you have to make the decision to be happy.
2. You can’t change the past, only the future, no matter what caused the situation. You shouldn’t beat yourself up about it or the other person. You can only take steps towards your future.
3. Make a list of everything that makes you happy. This can be playing video games, dancing, spending time with friends, anything constructive. Every time you feel yourself feeling low, you should do something on the list. EVERY TIME! Whenever I am dealing with something that makes me feel sad, I tend to read because it takes my mind off of whatever is upsetting me. Find out what helps you.
Only you have the power to change how you feel. Situations that affect you in life aren’t always a choice, but staying sad or depressed is. So, redirect your focus. Try and make it a point to use all the energy you are dedicating to feeling low to bettering yourself for the future.
