Standing Out On Your Summer Job
Whether you’re excited about your summer job or completely dreading it, every day is an opportunity for you to stand out. If for no other reason… you’re a child of God. For another… you’re making money! Here are a few things to keep in mind when trying to be a step above the rest this summer.
Be Punctual. Ever seen the movie “Remember the Titans”? The head coach said something you should remember, “If you’re on time, you’re late. If you’re five minutes early, you’re on time.” Simply put—don’t want to walk into work every day right at the time you’re supposed to. Leave home a few minutes earlier than normal to allow yourself at least five minutes before you clock-in. If someone is taking you to work, let them know you’d like to get to work a little earlier. This will show your boss you’re ready and willing to get the day started.
Be Happy. Attitude is everything. No matter if you’re cutting grass, making hamburgers, or working in a law office… your attitude will make you a positive or negative person at your job. Some people think the only thing that matters is that they get the job done. WRONG. A good attitude will set you apart from the your co-workers who just come in and never crack a smile the whole time they’re at work. With a bad attitude, no one wants to work with you. Make it a point to adjust your attitude and be positive before you step into work everyday.
Be First. Be the first to volunteer or do something that no one else wants to do. Everyone always asks the question, “why me?” Well… why not you? Volunteering to do things at work that may not even be your job shows that you are a hard worker and you’re not lazy. It also shows you’re a team player. Plus, you never know when you’ll need someone to step up and help you out on the job.
