What’s Hot and What’s Not?...YOU Decide

At what point in your life did you allow your peers to determine what looks good on you, what your hair should look like, and what you wear? Since when did you value a person’s opinion at school that barely know you more than your family’s and your own opinion?

Challenge yourself to determine what’s hot and what’s not by avoiding some common mistakes made among teens just like you:

Follow the leader. Remember the game you used to play in elementary school when one person would touch their nose and whoever did not do the same thing would lose the game? Well, quite frankly, you are not in elementary school anymore. When your friend starts growing out his hair, or your classmate gets a tattoo, that does not mean that’s “cool.” You’ve probably heard the question, “If they jump off the cliff, are you going to jump off too?” Well, as cliché and overused as that might be, the principle is the same as following the leader and mimicking after your peers. It’s quite ridiculous if you really think about it.

He said, she said. Picture this: A guys buys an outfit that he really likes and feels good in. He’s really excited to go to school because he is confident in his new outfit. When he arrives at school, his “friend” says loudly (in front of a large group), “Yo, man, what are you wearing… that’s wack!” Because this random “friend” disapproved of his new outfit,  he all of a sudden begins to feel self-conscious and question his choice to buy the outfit. This is a prime example of “he said, she said.” If you or your parents buy something for you to wear, wear it’s  because you like it. Don’t allow what others say to determine your style. Who are they to tell you what looks good anyway? Be confident in what you wear, and you will look great on the outside.

It’s up to you to decide, with the consent of your parents, what is appropriate and what looks and feels best! You never know if what you wear will set a standard and start a new trend, but you won’t find out unless you try!

Well, quite frankly, you are not in elementary school anymore. When your friend starts growing out her hair, or your classmate get a tongue ring, that does not mean that’s “hot.” You’ve probably heard the question, “If they jump off the cliff, are you going to jump off too?” Well, as cliché and overused as that might be, the principle is the same as following the leader and mimicking after your peers. This is a prime example of “he said, she said.” It seems crazy, but as girls we tend to do this all the time. If you or your parents buy something for you to wear, wear it’s because you like it. Don’t allow what others say to determine your style. Who are they to tell you what looks good anyway? Be confident in what you wear, and you will look great on the outside.
