“Un-Masking the Real Man”
Who are you? No really, stop for a moment and really answer that question. “Who am I?” Are you a collection of thoughts, actions, and words spoken over you by your parents, friends, circumstances, and/or environment? My reason for starting this month off with such a question as this, is that for so many of us, our entire lives, are built around what others have said we should be and figured to play with the cards dealt to us by any one given issue. Well, this is not you! Considering my self, (for example) from age 14 up to about 21 years of age, my life was completely centered behind a mask. I grew up in place where because of a few decisions and family members, I had to become something I did not want to be.
So many variables go into low and high self-esteem. Sad to say that society plays a large part of us hiding behind masks and not enjoying life as it is intended for us to. Lack of money, grades, style of dress, popularity, and where a person lives can all play into why they choose to wear a mask. When alone, you’re the one you want to be. When in public, you’re the one they want you to be. In fact, your mask has gotten so comfortable that you’re unsure, a little, who the real you really is. Let’s go back to the first question. Who are you? To answer this question you must look past the now and everything that created it and look at more of an internal source. To figure out who I am, I must know who created me. From that point forward, everything else begins to fit into its place. It’s impossible for me to wear a mask and hide the real me, because the real me is uncomfortable being anything phony and/or fake. Unmask the real man inside of you and allow all those who say they know and support where you’re heading in life, to show themselves true.
Thank you to all of you who have written in and commented. Going forward, don’t hesitate to holla at me about anything else. I’ll talk with you guys later. Please continue to write in and/or email your questions and responses.
