Frequently Asked Fitness & Food Questions:
Teen Health™ addressed some of teen girls most frequently asked questions regarding health and fitness as it related to body image. Here are some of the questions, with opinions from VIP added:
How Can I Get Motivated to Exercise?
Motivation is the most important aspect to maintaining a regular exercise schedule. The key word in that sentence is “schedule”. Exercise should not be a chore because you can make it fun and entertaining by doing it with friends and family. If you're not keeping some type of weekly schedule, you probably are not being consistent with your exercise. You won't want to let yourself down if you make a schedule because you will want to stick to it. So, figure out a time that works well for you! Even if you do a 30 minute workout during your favorite television show, at least you are sticking to a schedule.
What a Healthy Alternative to Water?
If you don’t like to drink a lot of water, please just make sure you don't drink fluids with a lot of and sugary beverages like soda, juice, and sports drinks. Water is always the best way to hydrate and avoid empty calories, but if you think it's too blah and it's just not doing it for you, you can always spice it up by adding fruit like lime, lemon, or an orange. Think about it… what do they offer at a restaurant? Yes, that’s right, “Water with Lemon?” There are also additives like Crystal Light and other alternatives that can add flavor to your water without adding a lot of sugar.
How Can I Get a Flatter Stomach?
It would be great if we could point a magic wand to the part of our body that we wanted to lose weight, but we can’t. Achieving a flatter stomach is not all about doing crunches or abdominal exercises. A healthy diet is very important. Which means that you should watch portion sizes. Instead of going back for seconds, take a few minutes to let your food settle, because you might realize that you aren’t hungry anymore. In addition to cardio activities like rollerblading, bike riding or running, exercises like crunches and push-ups will work out your core. You do not need a gym to tone up your stomach and upper body.
