Outside vs. Inside Appearance
When your parents ask you “What’s wrong?” and you tell them “Nothing”, they usually come back and say, “I see it on your face, something is wrong,” right? That’s because your inner thoughts and emotions come from the inside out. And usually, they are evident in your body language and in your actions.
So, what does this all mean? It means that you need to spend more time adjusting your attitude, doing things for others, spending time with God, and bettering yourself than you spent in the morning getting ready for school each day. You may be thinking, “How am I supposed to work on my inner self?” Good question. It IS easier to focus on the outside because that’s what you can see. The inside is a little bit more tricky. There are a few ways to find out what you can work on to better yourself… where it really matters.
Ask around to friends and family what areas they think you can improve about yourself. This is not an easy thing to do because no one likes to hear the “bad” about themselves and they will probably even look at your strange for asking them. You can ask “What ways can I be a better friend to you?” or “What ways can I be a better son or daughter to you?” Write some of the things down and re-visit the list.
Reading the bible can help you to learn ways that God wants you to be. There’s stuff in the bible about being a better friend, son or daughter, sibling, and just an overall person. Take it from the source on this one and you’re sure to be steered in the right direction.
