Five Questions with FGM Muzik (Uprising Artist)
What is a vision? Vision gives a man the power to see beyond himself. It allows him to set standards above what he can achieve because He knows he cannot do it on his own. A vision will turn a discouraged man into a great man of valor! Write the vision and make it plain, is exactly what happened when four unique individuals came together to form a group called Few Good Men. The group members included: Da General (DG), Pastor Puncho, J Style, and Sysco. The four soon came to a mutual agreement to depart to pursue other ministries that God had called them to. However, DG and J Style remained and now forms FGM Muzik.
With their freshman album Set The Standard FGM challenges each listener to examine every area of their lives and eliminate any/every hindrances that stops them from getting into an intimate relationship with Christ. Their untamable passion and unshakeable faith moves them to reach souls for God with a sound that brings forth a "unique stylistic mixture and a diverse blend of musical tastes." Though they have performed at various venues such as T.D. Jakes Mega Fest, The Last Wave, and several youth rallies, just to name a few; FGM goal remains that the listeners will hear the Good News of Jesus Christ through divinely inspired songs.
Janelle: Good evening,
DG: Good evening
Janelle: I understand that J Style couldn’t make it. So I’ll just to jump right in. Where did the name FGM come from?
DG: (laughing) Our Pastor actually, Dr. Charles Anderson, in his sermons he would always say “God is looking for a few good men” so when we heard that we were like, yeah that’s it Few Good Men!
Janelle: Where did the name D.G and J Style come from?
DG: A dream I had, I heard the name General; Da General and I was in awe because I had been searching for the right name and God gave it to me in a dream, which was so crazy to me. As far as J style, his style was so unqiue and unorthodox so we just start calling him J Style.
Janelle: What do you think about gospel rap music vs. secular rap music?
DG: Hmm... Its music. “Death and life is in the power of the tongue” so it all comes down to what are you speaking? Are you giving glory to God or to self? Another thing, gospel rap is giving the same message as a worship song or praise song just in a different form. A lot of Christians say we shouldn’t listen to it in the church, but I believe that if you are doing it to spread the gospel, the good news then why not? At the end of the day when if someone was brought to Christ through gospel rap, then that’s all that matters.
Janelle: Understood. What do you expect your listeners to get out of FGM’s album Set The Standard?
DG: We want to challenge the listeners to set a godly standard, stick with, and don’t compromise. Truly we just want them to hear truth.
Janelle: One last question, what advice would you give to the youth of today?
DG: Surround your self with people who are going to push you to where you need to be in Christ and life. Stay focus and pray.
Janelle: Thank you DG for your time let J Style know I look forward to hearing from him soon.
DG: Will Do!
