Give the Advantage: Don’t Take Advantage

It’s so easy to forget to thank your family and thank God for the little things that you have. You’re not alone and this doesn’t make you a bad person because everyone is guilty of taking things for granted. Did you eat dinner last night? Did you wear schools to clothes last week that weren’t torn or dirty? Do you live in a home that keeps you warm and dry? If you answered yes to any of these questions, you have something to be grateful for.

With true gratefulness in your heart, you must start to think of ways to show that gratefulness and give the advantage to your parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and God. You won’t be able to buy them a house for you all to live in or buy them a new wardrobe, but there are little things you can do to give the advantage and not just take advantage of the things you have been blessed with.

In regards to God, he has given you talents, abilities, and a life to live on earth. You can give the advantage in those areas by using the talents and abilities to do something for his glory. For instance, if you have a good singing voice, try out for your church choir, or if you are a good communicator, spend time mentoring kids that are younger than you. Don’t fall into the trap of using the excuse “I don’t have a talent.” Everyone has a talent. If you haven’t found yours, make it a priority to do so.

Do your normally wait till your parents tell you to clean the kitchen or wash the dishes to do so? Well, how about you make it a priority to do those things before they ask this month. It would only take you 10 minutes to spend time washing the dished when you get home from school so your parents can come home to a clean kitchen. This is giving the advantage. They have provided the kitchen and the food in the kitchen for you. You can show your thankfulness of this by doing simple tasks before you are asked.

If you have a younger sibling, try to spend time with them after school and help them with their homework. Of course your sibling haven’t bought you something or did something grand for you, but you can give the advantage by assisting them with projects, teaching them how to fold their clothes properly, or maybe taught them a cool skill you recently learned. Helping your siblings will also help out your parents by freeing up some time for them.

There are so many ways you can give the advantage to your parents and family. Take a few minutes to make a list of things you can do to give the advantage in your household this month.
